IBM a smart move: buy platform.com
IBM announced yesterday that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Platform Computing, a privately held company based in Toronto, Canada. Platform Computing is a global leader in cluster and grid management software for distributed computing environments. The acquisition is expected to take place in the fourth quarter of 2011. Financial terms were not disclosed.
“Platform Computing software has an extensive and proven track record of 19 years of helping customers accelerate innovation, do business analytics while being easy to deploy and manage,” said Songnian Zhou, CEO of Platform Computing.
Platform Computing has approximately 500 employees worldwide and more than 2000 customers in organizations that are very demanding in terms of computational power requirements.
Platform Computing has been under our attention and evaluation for years not so much for grid computing solutions, but for the management software of virtualized infrastructures in large clusters, over the years they have modified and evolved the solutions always keeping up with the times. For example, workload management solutions such as Symphony or ISF, ISF Adaptive Cluster, are all of considerable depth.
Great move for IBM.
